Every Autumn as the weather cools, farmers across Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Bavaria, walk their cows down from the high alpine pastures bringing them home to the valley for winter. It’s a tradition of graditude. A way to thank ‘those above’ for a safe and plentiful summer in the mountains. The cows are adorned with ornate headdresses made of spruce trees and flowers.
