One person died and another was hospitalized after a vehicle hit a tree late Saturday night.

Maple Heights police released the name Tuesday of the woman killed when officers said a speeding car crashed into a tree.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell announced Tuesday she is running for state auditor, filling the last opening in Ohio Democrats’ statewide ticket for the 2026 midterm elections.

Police say the vehicle struck a tree and was split in half. Sherece Mays was pronounced dead at the scene. Maurita Mays is in critical condition at MetroHealth.
