A fiercely contested primary between Senator John Cornyn and Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general, was upended in mid-May, when President Trump endorsed Mr. Paxton.

Primary runoffs will determine who represents the Democratic and Republican parties on the November ballot.

Gov. Henry McMaster is not on the ballot, as his term limit expires this year.
